Explains why dogs and cats tilt their head when hearing a sound they don't understand! Their ears are like the owl ears then, in angle one higher than the other! I never thought about it like this before and I'm wondering if others thought this too.

Porcupines make trees much more ecologically diverse. They are hated by the timber industry. In Colorado they are protected because they are the only Wildlife that a man can walk up to and kill to save himself from starvation. I once cooked one on a spit, it was delicious with fat dripping off of it

I live in central MA and have seen barred owls a few times - they're so big!! That wingspan is definitely a shocker when one flies over my head out on the trail. They don't seem to be too bothered by me and on one occasion I walked right up to one face to face before I noticed it was there 👀

I noticed this barred owl has a gray or silver beak, whereas all the others I've seen have a yellow beak. What's the cause behind this?

I think owls are cool, no matter what kind they are. I think I have two mated pairs on my property, one is Great Horned Owls, but I haven't identified the other pair yet. Both pairs are very welcome !!!

Friday, April 12, 2024 ☁🌥☁ Oh, cool, this is fun to learn a few things about barred owls! 🌳 🦉🌳 I was at a campground south of Bloomington, Indiana. There were a dozen folks gathered around a fire, chatting in the evening. 🌖 We heard 3 barred owls 🌳🦉🦉🦉🌳hooting nearby, and another barred owl 🌳🦉🌳hooting farther into the forest. 🌳🦉🌳 I wish everyone a happy, nature filled spring of 2024, and fun times with family and friends, Anthony! 🌳🎋🐿🌳🐇🐇🎋🐞🎋🌿🍄

“Shakespeare” almost went out like a true owl. Catching flight. On the Hunt. Through the night. Since he’s been barred from leaving the sanctuary, he’s the mockery of the airbirdgades.

I saw two of these either in the midst of a mating ritual or a territorial struggle one night. It was the painful cries of the one that drew my attention and suddenly they flew directly over so low I could almost touch them.

I LOVE that he's called Shakespeare!!! I love puns/plays on words...I keep telling my husband who's a regulas owl photog enthusiest, I want one of his favoured barred owls to be named Shakespeare! Might have that opp soon as he said one of the couples he photos appears to be nesting, so maybe there will be some owelets to be named.I'll be happy if one of them also takes that name :-)

I am curious as to how they got a fisher as an educational animal. Was she raised in captivity, or was she in the wild and something happened to her mother? How amazing for the kids to get an upclose look at a real fisher!
